Hello!

I’m Charles and have been lurking in the background for a few years now but today that is changing cause I have decided that buying a sailboat is definitely in my future.
If I don’t try to do some of the things I dreamt of , I won’t know if any of it was possible. I would rather try and fail than not to try.
So my background: I grew up moving every 3-4 years with my family until I became an adult, then I did what most do.Go about our lives.
But while growing up I spent every summer in Duxbury Ma on the water and used the rowboat that had been the tender to my granddad’s 40’ ketch designed by Sam Crocker, a boat that I have been trying to find for more years than I even want to amid, I seem to be running about 8 to 10 years behind it.
I’ve sailed beetle cats, larger catboats, helped a uncle with his 27’ Bristol, sunfishes and probably the worst day sailer ever designed a Chrysler Mutineer, of which I still own but it hasn’t been splashed in over a dozen years. Now I’m shopping for a ketch in the 30-40’ range. And there’s one that I’ll be viewing in 2 weeks!

Hello Charles. I love Sam Crocker designs too. No, I don’t own one but I can appreciate your affection for one that also has important family memories attached to it. Do you know if it was USCG documented or registered with the state? There may be was of tracing it through those sources.

What ketch are you going to look at?

Hello Tayana42,

Grandad's ketch was documented but has dropped off the coast guard's 3 year list. The previous owner & I think that the family they sold the Golden Eagle to didn't keep the registration up to date after they sailed her down to the Florida keys. It was #301 in the Crocker book, grandad had a smaller Crocker design that he bought used in 1945 and sold it a month or so before he took delivery of the bigger one. It was a 26 footer, not a Stone horse Jr design but close, I need to spend a few days up in Skip Crocker's office looking at plans that didn't make it into the book.

I'm going to look at a Cheoy lee 36 clipper.

Thanks for asking,
Charles
