Hello

Hi from the Philippines I am new here join the site because like to learn about boat and sailing. Hoping will sail someday. Like to ask If anyone have been here in the Philippines what is the best route and month they have sailed to cross the ocean to avoid storms along the way? Please just drop a message or could answer my questions. Thank you and much appreciates it a lot.

Re: Hello

Hi Rubi,

I'm in Cavite right now. My boat is the Ugly Duckling but it's in SF right now. Typically, storm (typhoon) season is from May to late Oct. but we still get storms in between, just not as strong.

As for the sailing, we have a tropical depression on it's way right now on it's usual path heading for Manila. The prevailing winds usually come out of the NE and head down thru the Sulu Sea on it's way towards Indonesia earth :: an animated map of global wind, weather, and ocean conditions

The S.C.S. is about the safest area to sail along as you avoid the Tubbataha Reef.

We have a Philippine social group you might want to enter/join. Cruisers & Sailing Forums - Boats & Sailing in The Philippines

Saka na!

Re: Hello

If he plans to stay in the Marshall's, no big deal. But if he heads SE from there he's really going to need weather info on the fly. Typhoon season starts in May and the typhoons generally starts building out around the Guam area, and to the South, and work their way towards the Philippines crossing the Philippine Sea.

Typhoon season lasts until Nov. but storms still come in as tropical depressions. The last one came in Nov. 2nd and slammed the Semirara Is. as a Cat 5 and died down on it's way across the Visayan's. By the time it got here in Cavite it was just a windy day (25 kt.).

The best times to sail to HI is in the spring, or catch a opening in Nov. after the Mexican storms die down.
