Hello!
Just want to say hello to all! New to forum. Looking forward to all the extensive experience and advice here as my wife and I transition from the mountains of Montana to wakes of Marina Del Rey. Empty nesters moving southwest and back to the ocean. So, hello!

Not currently in MdR, but 1 boat is! Let me know if you need resources for there... Maybe I could point you in the right direction...

You will probably need to pare down on your winter wardrobes...

Wow! It's been almost two years since I posted last. Thanks for the welcomes!
My wife rlp164 and I have now been in Cali for 16 months . I've completed ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, nighttime navigation and several docking classes in both Redondo harbor and Marina del Rey. We've been chartering mostly Catalina 34s and 36s and Hunter 41 for two summers and we finally pulled the trigger and made an offer on a Polaris 43 (unauthorized Bob Perry design- SORRY BOB! valiant 40 hull but flush deck). It's in great shape. Survey and sea trial this week. I've fallen I love with Twin Harbors cove on Catalina and plan to spend many weekends there this summer as we extend our experience out of the Sourh Bay.

Danielp, welcome back. Isthmus cove at Two Harbors is one of the delights of sailing in Southern California. It can be wonderful in the winter too, much less crowded and they have off season rates. But there is much more to see and enjoy. Lots of coves at Catalina, Paradise Cove in Malibu, the northern Channel Islands (after you have more experience), Newport Beach, Dana Point, Mission Bay and San Diego Bay are all delightful and challenging. If you haven't found it yet get a copy of Charlie's Charts for the U.S. Pacific Coast. It has up to date information on all the harbors and anchorages. www.charliescharts.com
