Hi Doug and Alicia! There are a couple of beginner's sailing
books published by
ASA, worth
purchasing and studying. They are available at most book sellers and ASA's website. In sailing, as in flying, hands-on experience is a must. Once you've learned the basics, you'll need to
work on your seamanship skills; a life-long endeavor.
Crewing is one way to do it; check your local
marinas for availability. Plenty of Old Salts on CF to advise you on how to sail to the moon; be selective in what you read. Keep us posted about your progress! Good luck! (Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with
ASA, in any capacity whatsoever.)
