Aloha and welcome aboard,
As has been said, even the best sailors still can learn something new. What Boatman was referring to was stays. They hold a mast foreward and aft. The newer Hunters have no backstay so there is fear that going downwind in heavy weather might be too much stress on the after shrouds and cause a dismasting.
I too am skeptical.
