Guten Tag and a warm 'hello' from Frankfurt/Germany

My name is Jannis and I live in Frankfurt/Germany. I am 38 years of age and I fell in love with Yachting when I did my SBF (Sportbootführerschein Motor/Segel) on the Main river in 2008. Since then I have done some recreational Yachting on small boats in Germany and the Netherlands. Working in the Financial Services industry for a US west-coast based bank pays the bills, but I have always had the dream in my head to make a living in the recreational Yachting business one day.

Just recently a good friend of mine, who works in the Yachting business and has almost ten years experience in the business from large super-Yachts to small boats (day and weekly Charter) has approached me to help him starting his own business.

I am looking forward to working on this opportunity and would like to contribute to this forum, post my experiences and hope to get a few good tipps from the experienced members, thank you!

Und immer eine Handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel,
Jannis

Yes, I did. Personally if you want to be involved with sailing, I feel you should pursue it on your own. With any new business the likelihood of failure is high. If that happened, you would have to start over. My personal opinion is that the worlds economy is fragile right now....you asked.

Re: Guten Tag and a warm 'hello' from Frankfurt/Germany

Indeed, the world economic situation is pretty messed up at the moment. But I think there are always a lot of arguments for not doing something. I would like to pursue this opportunity and get the numbers right in the first place, this is why I am looking for a good BP template to start with. However, I remain realistic and try not to let emotions take over, which is challenging of course, because it is like chasing a dream. But once you put in hard work, dedication and endurance, dreams can come true. I am grateful for your thoughts and recommendations. I know that there is a ton of knowledge and wisdom in this forum and every single one of you has probably more experience and expertise in Yachting than me. Still, what I have is the dream...

Good luck in your endeavors and may all your dreams be realized. I'm setting sail in the Sea of Cortez in 4 weeks and that is magic for me, in the sense of realizing my dreams.

Safe sailing and all the best for you!

I found this on the net, looks like a good summary of the challenges...

Re: Guten Tag and a warm 'hello' from Frankfurt/Germany

Hello from the Netherlands.

My name is Bert and I live in Lemmer, The Netherlands, near the big lake IJsselmeer and not far from the North Sea. I am 68 years of age and I am sailing since I was 14.
I make long sailing trips with my Contest 31 to England, Denmark and Sweden. Nowadays I am mostly sailing single handed or as skipper/instructor on sailing boats.

Bert
