When you grow up with them, work with them and depend on them they are at your fore thought of concern and consideration in most things you do.

Have you ever been out of CONUS as tourist?
I never went anywhere until I stopped watching Fox News.
The I went to Mexico/England/Canada/Italy......perhaps 35 different countries.
Sold all my guns.Still go duck hunting with old friends every year.I use one of theirs.
Now on my vessel I use spear/flare gun for "protection".Hahaha.Sometimes I feel like "Man From U.N.C.L.E ".I've also electrified the stantions to repel boarders ! This gives me great comfort!

Go for sail or power boating close to home-see how it is for you.

You know, I'm still waiting to learn where a cruiser is planning on going and what they plan to hunt when they get there in order to justify having guns all the time. I have a thought of what it could be.

I carry a gun all week long on my job. I also carry a gun with me when I travel to my current marina. I have to work in some tough neighborhoods. It gets old real fast. My boat will soon slipped in the one of the very safest ports in the entire world, so I won't need one there. Thank god!

The once or twice that I have gone to Mexico to hunt dove, it was far easier to rent the gun at the resort than to try to bring mine. Been long ago, but I doubt it's easier now.

Don't take a firearm if you will be sailing in foreign waters, presuming your home waters are USA.

How true.

I haven't owned a gun for years and sold all of mine before the increased restrictions back in the 90's.

I travelled and lived in the remote bush for many years and a gun was just another tool you had to work with and was essential to provide fresh meat.

I was toying with the idea of putting a simple single shot or bolt action 22 and single or double barrel shotgun aboard for some diet supplementation but had a look at the rules and way too much hassle for me. It's a shame really.

You need to:
1-Join the NRA
2-Ask them who publishes a book for taking guns across borders. Odds are they have it for sale.

Taking firearms across international borders is something where if you have to ask? You shouldn't be doing it. The laws change AT EACH BORDER and they are likely to change AT LEAST ONCE PER YEAR as different venues update their laws. So unless you want the full-time job of being the "arms custodian"...leave 'em at home and if you feel nervous about going somewhere? Just don't go there. Half the world may be full of pirates and rebels, but the other half can keep you quite pleasantly busy for a very long time.

Why worry about Somalia when you can do a distillery tour of Scotland? too cold? OK, go to Tahiti. Although, I think the Scots welcome visitors more.

For cruising the Med, no guns are necessary. Otherwise, may I recommend something sexy and utilitarian in a 7.62 x 39 for US coastal work... the perfect cruising companion.
