We carry a gun and declare it when we cruise in foreign ports.

I think Cyprus and malta will hold firearms indefinitely for a small storage fee currently,but gib will only hold them for 6months now,and will destroy them if unclaimed after the 6month period.

I took the delivery when it was in the Med, with the goddammed piece aboard, so hadn't a choice, really awkward stuff when the gun owner wasn't aboard either.

Personally I see no use for them , hence its never an issue for me. But each to his own.

Wow, 12 pages and still going.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just have the OP install a deep fryer and call it good?

you need a rifle for deep fried goat fritters

I'll stay away from the topic of whether guns are evil or not, but I do have a few practical points to make:

* Some jurisdictions even require that you declare flare pistols. At their option, they may hold them for you or seal them for the duration of your stay. Yet, I hope that all of us carry them on board.

* Even if you do declare firearms on entering a new jurisdiction, you may be required to surrender them to local authorities while visiting. This presents the practical problem that you must return to that port to retrieve them as your last stop before clearing out of the country. Depending on where, this could be seriously inconvenient.

* Perhaps waving a pistol at an intruder will avert a robbery, but it can have other negative consequences.

* I do not wish to begin to imagine how one might arm a cruising boat to protect it from an attacking gang of pirates, potentially on multiple boats, potentially with automatic weapons.

I, for one, do not wish to travel where carrying a gun would make the difference between me feeling safe and unsafe. Fortunately, such places a few and far between.

Used to could carry them on the airplane with you as checked baggage with not much of an issue, just make sure it's declared, do not forget to tell them about it. I never carried ammunition though, but as what I bird hunt with is a Browning grade 6 four barrel set and those haven't been made for awhile, I decided it might not be worth the possibility of losing that, so I rented a Beretta

Whoa whoa whoa Weavis. People have severe peanut allergies which can cause anaphylaxis and they could die. Peanuts could arguably be more dangerous then guns if you don't have them properly stored, labeled, and secured. You cant go joking about things like peanuts my man.

I mean I am all about guns but when I was young I saw this one bully holding a peanut chasing a kid with a peanut allergy. It was a really scary life and death situation. Scarred me for life.
