Hello vidar
You will love living aboard. It can be very reasonably priced depending on where you stay. You are very smart to research first before spending. Much money is wasted by rookie mistakes, but sometimes it can't be helped (voice of experience) you just roll with it.
Many marinas have auctions for boats that have been abandoned. My last marina was selling boats for 50 bucks. There are many many junk boats among those auctions, but once in a while there is a gem. Keep an eye out for those auctions BUT don't buy without an experienced skipper with you, sometimes a free boat can be a nightmare financially. Hope that helps, good luck and look forward to hearing about your adventures.

Welcome. My wife and I have been living and sailing on our boat for a couple of years now; just passed the two year marker last summer. Life's never been better. It's harder, and certainly more expensive than the cheapest way to live on land.

But for my quality of life, I don't know how I could get it anywhere else.

Aloha and Welcome aboard!
The 3 years I lived aboard were absolutely wonderful. Would do it again.
regards,
