Greetings from the Desert ...

Hello Everyone,
Like many folks on this site, I had to change my life path due to other issues. Helping elderly parents and the wife's illness led to selling our last boat, LOA53 gaff schooner, JUBILO, and moving to the desert in the SW for a while. Until then, I had been on the water since 1968 and hold USCG 100T, AB and QMED papers. Worked chartering and sail deliveries in Hawaii, tug boat engineer in Alaska and captain of OSV(supply boat) in the Gulf of Mexico. Planning on easing back into the sailing life, shortly, so looking to see what is new.....

Hi Captain and welcome.
There's a lot to read throughout these forums and others, that will I believe, answer a lot of your questions. Congrats on coming home BTW.

The entertainment value alone in which expensive Cat owners with guns debating Chinese anchors with no budget adventurists is invaluable.

Enjoy, and again, Welcome,

John

Re: Greetings from the desert....

A big welcome from our high desert in WA state where sail often on the Columbia river. Not much has changed except newer designed boats that don't leak thru the wooden boards mostly.

I guess Mme Pompadour was right, "the more things change, the more they remain the same". Still keeping the wet side down!

Aloha and welcome back to the sailing community.
Got any photos of your old boat. Sounds really nice.
Once you've owned and sailed an old woody its really hard to forget the sounds and beauty of her underway. Had an old Garden Ketch for several years.
kind regards,

Re: Greetings from the Desert ...

Thanks, actually, the PO had Jubilo in Lahaina for many years. We were on a mooring in Ke'ehi Lagoon for a few years and left for Sitka in '97. Hope to have some pix soon.

Re: Greetings from the Desert ...

Welcome Capt_albatross from a fellow merchant mariner, Unlimited, CMA grad. Looking to get out on my schedule and destinations, not that of the shipping company.
