Greetings from the Armpit of the Universe!

Hello all, and greetings from Ohio, the flat, boring land in the midwest with NO WATER !

After growing up in Mi on the great lakes, this place is killing me, and the universe said to go ~! so I just bought a gorgeous 28' 1968 Columbia that is literally turnkey in San Francisco Bay, found a liveaboard slip, and am moving there in 5 weeks ! (the "reason" is for school as if I needed one !) And I know, I know, but he's only taking a tiny ($250) deposit until I get there to see her, so no real loss if something is amiss, but the pics are beautiful, he's a professional who's going liveaboard as well, so I'm not too worried. Sooo happy to be getting on the water again

So enough about me, it's great to meet you all, and hope to see you on the blue ~!

Well silly me. No water in Ohio? And I always thought that some part of Ohio wasn't too far from Lake Erie.

But I have to say, given the choice I would take San Francisco Bay.

So welcome to the forum. Hope you like the Colombia. A friend of mine also has a Colombia 28 and likes it a lot.

Well, whether OH or Troy NY is the armpit of the universe, better to live in the armpit than the a. sphincter.

Well, I love sailing on the great lakes, and you didn't get on here looking for people to sail with up at the lake, so.... enjoy higher taxes and a huge crowd. PM if you get back this way and I'll show you the lake.

Re: Greetings from the Armpit of the Universe!

gelfing--you are correct......
is ok to be in an armpit, as long as there is a stress relief valve nearby.
remember--is better to sail out and away from the armpit than to sail into it..
you have a goal and a date set for meeting that goal--it will workout fine even if the boat is fubar'd....have fun with your adventure.

As Sam Clements once said, the coldest winter he had ever experienced was a summer in San Francisco. Be sure to bring the jacket for summer here.... Good sailing for sure though.

Re: Greetings from the Armpit of the Universe!

You do know about lake Erie right? Most of the northern edge of Ohio borders on the lake. If you grew up in "that state up north", then you should know this.

Oh, and the whole eastern part of Ohio is hilly, the southeastern part is very hilly.

I grew up in Ohio and learned to sail on Lake Erie. It's not the most interesting shoreline until you get out west by Sandusky and the Islands, but you can get out on the water pretty easily.

Now if you wanted to complain about the weather...
