Greetings from Northern Michigan

Hi,

Currently reside on Grand Traverse Bay where I sail when the water isn't frozen. Originally from SF Bay Area and hope to do some cruising (live aboard) there while working. Partner and I recently bought a 1979 San Juan 7.7 that will rejoin the racing fleet at GTYC this year. Plan to spend as much time on the water as I can for the rest of my life.

Re: Greetings from Northern Michigan

Hi there,
I lived in Suttons Bay for 8 years with a Tanzer 22. Grand Traverse is a GREAT place to sail. The water is clear and deep most places. Power island has an excellent anchorage on the southwest side, sandy bottom, good unless wind is out of the east which it almost never is. Suttons Bay is a wonderful little village with a marina and so is Northport. In between there's Omena Bay. It's very deep, but if you play around, you can find one of the shelves for your anchor. The other side of the Omena Peninsula on Northport Bay is a great place to anchor, also; surrounded by private land but hardly anyone anchors there, so you often have it to yourself. Have fun! I certainly did!
