Greetings from Northern California

I have loved the water for as long as I can remember. And while I have been around it alot of my life I have not spent a lot of time on it. Which is probably why I was struck with the idea of buying a boat. Which led me to this wonderful website. I love a challenge and I sure picked a good one. For now I am doing a lot of reading, as boating is a language unto its own. Its obvious I need some lessons. I usually spend a lot of time investigating something to see if I think I could be capable, which so far is a big yes. I also would take free lessons from anybody who has extra time on their hands....lol. For now I am glad to be here and I agree with the others, with some of the nicest folks.

Welcome aboard Nomadgurl. Find the nearest marina, walk the docks and more than a few will offer you a spot as crew, even for just a couple of hours. As you said, cruisers are some of the nicest people.

Good to have you here. I'd suggest finding a local sailing/yacht club that offers basic sailing classes. You'll know right away if you fit into the boating community and if you really want to sail/cruise/liveaboard.
A little bit of caution about jumping aboard someone's boat when invited. Talk with them first to get an idea of whether or not they are safety oriented and it'd be best to go aboard a family oriented boat for the first few sails until you get a feel for who you can trust.
