Greetings from New Orleans . . .

I have lived in New Orleans for most of my life and have been on a couple of small sailboats. Inspired by a good friend who has worked on catamarans for a few years now, I'm ready to leave city life behind to get some real sailing experience. Searching for a November gig heading south to the Caribbean as a cook and deckhand-in-training. All set up on 'findacrew' and looking forward to perusing this forum for additional insight.

Re: Greetings from New Orleans . . .

Hi Ginger, I am thinking I might be ready for a sail south in November and on to the Bahamas. I am working on getting my boat ready and hope to be in the water by Nov 1st. Send me some more details about you and your sailing experience to my personal email address trc1029 at yahoo and I will send you more details about what I am looking for and my boat.

Re: Greetings from New Orleans . . .

Welcome aboard :-)
My 2 cents:
Picking the boat to crew on is very important, the crew must be team oriented, the captain knowledgeable and easy going. The boat seaworthy. I recommend looking for family run boats, they are almost always looking for help, the boats are well maintained and safety equipment up to date. Being a woman, there is a particular concideration for safety from guys that get ideas when the shoreline fades into the horizon, stay safe.
