Greetings from Nantucket...

Just joined about a week ago, and I've had a great time bouncing all over this site (especially the Sailor's Confessional). My sailing resume is skimpy and outdated at best; For many years, I was a member at a sailing club where I took all the ASA classes through offshore passagemeking. I crewed on the delivery of the clubs 2 Cal 39's from Great Abaco, Bahamas to Norfolk, Virginia. I also owned an O'Day 27 that I used to sail around Nantucket Sound, but I've been boatless for many years now. You can imagine how frustrating that is when you live on a tiny island. Occasionally, my friend Pete will call to take his Hunter 37 for a day sail...other than that, I'm high and dry.

Now after building a house, a business and a family, and working 70+ hour weeks for several years just so we can give all our profits to Uncle Sam, even my mid-western born wife is willing to consider the idea of cruising. It may take several years to form a plan, iron out the details and (hopefully) make it a reality, but at least we're talking about it.

Welcome - In the meantime get a boat - any boat that floats and get on the water. It's good for the soul!

My brother has a 15 foot Force 5 and we go out and have a blast in it.

Well...to be honest, I did buy a 20 year old O'Day Daysailor III last fall. I put it in the water this past June, sailed it once with my 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter, then lost the mast when the head stay broke during a storm (it was sitting on the mooring at the time). I've ordered all new standing rigging, but it hasn't arrived yet.

On top of that, there was a nice 7 1/2 foot Puffin dinghy included with the deal when I bought the daysailor. I went out last week to check on it only to find that someone stole it.

Aloha Ish,

Get that O'Day sailing and you'll be in love again. Welcome aboard!! Good to have you here. The forum has started to be a little faster again so feel free to post. Sorry about your dink. It happens a lot. Hope you can find the culprit.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Yo, welcome Ish.
Sorry to hear for the small setbacks, but sure you'll overcome and we'll see you and your partner out there cruising before long.
Sail safe.
JOHN.
