Greetings From Las Vegas

Hello,

I am very happy to be on the forum. I am a retired Ironworker from Las Vegas and have been sailing for about 4 years now. I am a member of the HIYC in San Diego and I rent their boats until I can purchase my own. Have only sailed Sloops but looking forward to learning on a few Cats. Big plan is to buy a 65' Sloop and permanently retire cruising the Mexican coast.

Dave

Howdy and Ahoy and Welcome Aboard CF Dave!

I hope you enjoy your time on CF, as well as on the water.

A 65 foot boat is a BIG boat. Opinions differ on what size boat is good for a single or couple to cruise on. Some like it big, and some like it small.

Here is a link to previous threads/discussions about "Big Boats" that I think will give you a good survey of the differences of opinion on boat size.

I originally thought I wanted a 50 foot boat for a family to cruise the world. But, because I am just a single guy, I don't really need all that boat (and expense and maintenance and dock fees) to satisfy my needs and desires, so my target size in boats has decreased over time, and as I am continuing to downsize. To each his own.

Good luck on your future sailing adventures and your own boat hunt.

Re: Greetings From Las Vegas

Whoops. That was a mistake. I meant a 55'. Which. I know, is still a big boat.
