Greetings from Hong Kong

Greetings all - I have been reading these very interesting forums for some time and got hit by a brain snap to register today. I am currently living in Hong Kong, after 10 years in Shanghai, and now having a Schionning W1620 cat built in Southern China. End of the '08 typhoon season we're outa here !!

DH:
welcome aboard.
Is the W1620 one of those prefabricated kit boats?
Is your Chinese builder/assembler a boat yard?
Regards,
Gord

Hi Gord,
Yes, she is a Wilderness 1620 (now 1660 with a bit added to the lowest transom step) though to call them "pre-fabricated" is a bit of a stretch. The hull panels and frames, as well as a lot of the furniture panels etc, are pre-routed and pre-scarfed Duflex panels that are then joined side to side to make the full lengths.
She is being built by a yard in Xinhui, near Zhuhai - Timeless Yachts, simultaneously with another Schionning boat, a Wilderness 1230.
Cheers
DH

Welcome aboard. I myself hailed from Honkers until 2004. Been living in Bangkok since then.

Aloha DH,
Welcome aboard!! I have good memories of Hong Kong when I visited in '63 via U. S. Navy. I was even able to afford to have a suit made.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Hello DH,
I am in Shanghai now (originally Canada) and looking at getting a schionning 1030 built here. I was contemplating a shuttleworth cheetah 30 and also looked at the Kelsall range, but Schionning do seem like a good choice. I am trying to source Duflex panels here and will just purchase the plans to keep costs down - have you any contacts here in China?

Welcome DH,

I'm also based in Hong Kong - we sail out of Shelter Cove (Hebe Haven). There's some pretty nice sailing up the eastern side of the New Territories.

Cheers, Cameron
