Greetings from DC

Hello CF community,

Wannabe sailor/captain here working a landlocked 70-hr week job in the land of workaholism. I live a few blocks from the Potomac but my closest contact with it comes when I ride the Metro under it everyday. I have been saying "this year is the last year" for too many years now, but now I mean it: this year is the last year! As Bette Midler said, "even if you win the rat race, you're still a rat."

I'm here to make contacts, research sailing training programs and prepare for a very different life come next May. Thanks in advance!

Re: Greetings from DC

There is hope for you... I spent years on the metro going under the potomac from Cap Hill in DC to the Pentagon. My wife did the same thing. With two kids aged 8 and 11 we pulled the plug -- rented the rowhouse and took off to the Med. We need to be back to the rat race nextr August but we are having a heck of a great time!!! We don't miss anything about DC (except of course good paying jobs) and I dread the return. But, our kids like it there and we will return with some awesome memories... We will always be glad we did it regardless of the cost. Go for it!

John

PS: Just got to Turkey yesterday for the winter... 7,400 boat miles in 5 months and every one was fantastic!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here. The sooner you can get sailing the better. I've ridden the metro and been to the Pentagon and a few other military related places there too. Its a great place to be far away from.
Try to find an inexpensive basic sailing class as soon as the weather turns a bit nicer. Give that a try then see if you want to pursue it a bit further.
kind regards,
