Greetings from Colorado

I've always loved the ocean and yet have always lived in Colorado. It's time to change that in a big way as I'm chasing a dream to live on a sailing catamaran with my wife and two dogs.

Looking forward to interacting with the collective wisdom available on this forum.

Welcome and good luck.

There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum. I recommend using the "Custom Google Search" option under the drop down "Search" menu at the top of this page.

Hi Mike,

I am new to this forum and my husband and I just moved from Louisville, Colorado (in Jan) to Palm Beach, Florida to live aboard a sailing catamaran (Leopard 40). Everyone thought we were crazy for leaving "the best place to live" but we love the water and cruising more - plus no snow shoveling. It has been a crazy 6 months with lots to learn and many frustrations but I think it is worth it.

Re: Greetings from Colorado

Wow...thanks everyone!

ShaktiGurl: We were practically neighbors...I live in Broomfield (for now). Definitely looking forward to throwing that snow shovel away. Did you guys move before you bought the boat...one of the biggest challenges I've had thus far is trying to shop for a boat when we are 1000 miles away from the ocean. I feel like I'm supporting Southwest airlines single handed these days.

Re: Greetings from Colorado

I hear you. When we first decided to move, we did not intend to purchase right away because we had a Hunter 30 we could stay on. Then some incredible things happened, and we found one of the boats on our short list available. It was a whirlwind but we bought Mulligan a month before we moved and brought her from Georgia. We had a mooring ball waiting for her (that we have owned for a few years) so we had a place to stay. Then went back to CO to close on the house. We made a decision in Oct to move, a few other miracles occurred, and it all happened by Dec. It was like 90% exciting and 10% terrifying... or maybe more like 90% terrifying and 10% exciting but that's what makes it so intense We also have family close by and use their home as a base which made a huge difference.

Re: Greetings from Colorado

As an employee of Southwest We really appreciate your business. My wife and I just moved to Colorado, Summit County to be exact. We plan on purchasing a live aboard cat in the next year or so then split our time between the two. Fortunately my job is tailor made for this lifestyle. Friends think we are nuts but but we can't think of a more rewarding lifestyle. Welcome aboard!

Re: Greetings from Colorado

Welcome! We left Summit County in 2006, moved aboard our boat in Oregon and sailed that summer up the Inside Passage to Alaska (do that and you won't miss the mountains!). Wintered (skied) two years in Valdez, sailed Prince William Sound in the summers, then sailed to Homer to work for a while. We expect to be underway again by solstice, sailing down the IP this summer.

Fair winds, fellow Coloradans!
Susanna

So which is the 90% and which the 10% for you? I'm a bit jealous as I wish I was having that kind of luck finding our boat. Guess I just need to be patient.

You're welcome Will. So, I guess when it gets too cold, you'll head for the boat and visa versa. Heck, it's only a 9200 ft or so elevation change, right.

When we were last in the Dry Tortugas I recall seeing a boat sporting a Colorado state flag. From what I'm getting here...that may be more common than I had thought.

Thanks Susanna, and good luck with your continuing adventure.

Wow! Lots of Coloradans on CF. Welcome each and every one. I hope you'll keep us all informed of your sailing adventures.
