Greetings from another Newbie

Hello all,

My name is Dan and I'm very new to the whole boat scene. I sailed a little bit as a kid but my serious love for most of my adult life has been motorcycles.

Recently my partner and I decided we wanted a life (sea) change and have been planning to do an extended cruise around Australia. We figure this will take 5 to 6 years to plan and execute. This hopefully should give us enough time to get some experience under our belts to make the trip a realistic goal.

I've lurked on this forum for a little while, trawling through the various message areas looking for answers to the many questions that have arisen in our quest...

So far we've purchased a boat (a Carter 33), obtained licenses and organised to do some introductory sailing courses. So things are happening in the right direction at least.

The boat is moored at the Westernport Marina in Hastings which isn't too far from our home in Emerald. I get to spend my weekends working on the yacht which is every bit as much fun as learning to sail.

We're looking forward to meeting other people doing the kinds of things we want to do!

Welcome from a fellow Aussie .

I have raced from Westernport marina a few times. The tidal streams can make it fun . The shallow sand banks less so LOL.

PS The Emerald area would have to be the most beautiful spot in Victoria come autumn .

I couldn't agree more. And if you are able to service and/or upgraded all the boat's systems yourself, you'll have more cofidence in your boat and when something breaks down on the water, you'll be able to diagnosis and resolve the problem faster.

Dont forget to call into the largest salt water lake in the southern hemisphere,- Lake MacQuarie.
Some of the best sailing water anywhere!
