Greetings from a Land-Locked Lover of the Sea

Hey everyone! I got my first taste of sailing in Mallorca with an ex-boyfriend who grew up sailing, he bought a 35-foot fiberglass Endurance shortly after we started dating and I spent most of the summer and a fair chunk of the year sailing in and around Mallorca. From the first time we got on the boat, all my mind could think of was, "what if we just keep going and never turn back?" Anyway, the relationship has since ended but my sea legs haven't gone away and in my constant search for adventure, I've joined this forum. Of course I dream of spending years at sea, exploring the lost nooks and crannies of the globe, but for now they're only dreams.

Anyway, I'll be going to Australia in about a month's time (Sydney, Melbourne, and East Coast mostly) and was wondering if it would be reasonable to look for a way to go out sailing around Sydney just for a day. I can't afford one of the charter-type cruises and wouldn't want to impose on anyone, but would just love to get the chance to get some salt-spray on my face again and see Sydney from the sea. I'll be moving to Mexico City in September and hope to find sailing opportunities around Mexico as well.

Good luck in your search. I frequently sail on other sailors boats and am always inviting people on mine - they often hesitate to accept and earger participants are nice to find - so I would expect you would find it the same in many parts of the world.

Yes, welcome to the forum. My fiance just returned from four weeks in Oz and, apart from the jet lag (15 hours when she left Canada and 14 upon her return due to their daylight savings), she had a great time. I agree with the suggestion about posting under crew wanted and try to be location/date specific in your heading.

Regardless of your current opportunities for crewing, keep the dream alive!

Well welcome to the forum from someone who lives in Mexico City currently while trying to sell her house.

For sailing opportunities "close" to Mexico City you only have Valle De Bravo (lake sailing) which is about 3 hours drive away . Then there is Acapulco which you can do in 6-7 hours in a car or by bus which is very comfortable and if you are travelling alone safer . Cheap too .

Have a look at the social group "Cruising Australian Waters" on CF and you will find a heap of Aussie contacts and im sure a Skipper for the day up Sydney way
Ive not yet sold my Hardware store so im working 7 days a week otherwise Lisa and i would sail you all over Port Phillip Bay (Melbourne)

Good luck down under and in Mexico City. If you ever get North to California, you have an all expense paid sailing trip to Catalina Island waiting for you. We will teach you the difference between a Halyard and a Lanyard..and make you good on the Sheets!
