Greetings Everyone

Hello from the west coast of Florida. We just got a new member of the family, a CSY 44. My wife and 4 kids plan on sailing the keys and maybe venture to the Bahamas. Possibly in a few years, we may decide to start cruising full time. We are relatively new to sailing so we are taking it slow for now. We really enjoy this site and look forward to learning more from the wealth of information found here!

Re: Greetings Everyone

Welcome aboard, CSYs are great boats.
Don't sweat going to the Bahamas, with a good weather window, easy crossings and unreal clear water and superb beaches.

Re: Greetings Everyone

Chanty, Welcome to the community. We are your neighbors on the other side of the state. We'll likely be southbound again mid-January and down to 'Lauderdale & the Keys. We see many other cruisers/liveaboards in passing from the Bahamas to New England. Will "Chantey" be the name of your CSY 44?
Hey, check those embedded chain plates on that CSY. Was that job done recently in the history of your vessel? What's the year? I only say this because all of our boats have specific cautions that seem to be pervasive for the manufacturer and I've come across these embedded chain plates with some corrosion deep out of sight on the CSYs. Not to panic, but have the inspection on your short list if this has not been done.

Hey, CSY Man, I wonder if you own my former boat? I spent 2 years cruising through the Caribbean 1991-93 on a 1979 CSY 33. Great boat, hard to believe it is only 33' long. I actually got out a tape measure to convince myself. Sold the boat around 1996.

Re: Greetings Everyone

I'll second the chainplate advice. We were sitting at anchor in St. Somewhere and just happened to notice a visible crack in one of our chainplates. Yikes. Got a new one made at a local machine shop.

Re: Greetings Everyone

Thanks for the advice CaptForce, all the chain plates have recently been replaced with an updated design. Now they are external and easily monitored.
