Greetings and alittle about me.

Greetings, reading the post on this forum is a daily ritual for me and I have been doing so for quite some time. Thought I would go ahead and join and become a member. I've owned a Morgan 414 Out island sloop for many years. I repowered myself with a new Yanmar and I am always improving my boat. I really like my four foot two draft for the waters I cruise in.

I am a licensed Captain and make a good living on the water doing many different things such as diesel fuel polishing with professional equipment, I am licensed and insured. I have my own taxi, tow, work boat powered by Yanmar. I do dive work and salvage vessels and I have been a Tow Boat US Captain for many years. I am also pretty good at knowing my way around engine rooms and diesel engines and systems. If you need help on the water and I'm around then I am on my way.

I cruise the Dry Tortugas, the Keys and the Bahamas and that is the extent of my cruising so far. I live in the S.W.Florida on Charlotte Harbor. I live on the hook and at my house about 50/50. Anyway hello everybody. Chuck

Geography lesson

Chuck,
Just where the heck are the Dry Tortugas? Heard of them all my life, but have never seen them on a map/chart. Thanks for the info.

The Dry Tortugas (National Park) & Fort Jefferson are located 68 Nautical miles west of Key West, Florida, at about 24.6̊ N Lat. x 81.6̊ W Lon.

Welcome Chuck,
I'll remember the tow services if ever in your area - but hope I'll never need to make use of them!
Enjoy
JOHN

Welcome aboard:

Beautiful area you live in. Chartered a boat there for a week last year. Be awhile before we make it back as we just bought a Sceptre 41 and it is in Canada. We plan to visit Florida again though.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the warm welcome. It was a busy day on the water today helping a vagrant vegabond type sailor, yeah one of those that give us cruisers a bad name. He was aground and needed a fifteen mile tow.Didn't make much money today but I felt like I was the only one to help him. I actually felt sorry for him. Pay it forward, right? I will contribute to this forum the best I can. Chuck

Greetings from Malta

Hello friends...first time on this forum.excellent w/site to meet other yachtsmen A little about me Well I been sailing some 25 years started sailing when I use to live in Sydney Australia Build a 47`steel ketch and it took me 14 years to do a circumnavigation (the only Maltese who sailed aroud the world on a sailing yacht) all the time living onboard with wife and three boys In those years I met the most wonderfull people on this planet.Thre years ago I sold the boat and bought a nice trimaran F31 a big change from a steel cruising yacht to a fast fiberglass multihull..do not regret it as sailing in the Med a tri like my F31 is ideal; now I sail singlehanded or with another crew
I still do delieveris- Med Red Sea/ Indian Ocean five times last two year.Last year we opened the first Cruising Club in Malta (there are 4 other yachting clubs here) more than 90 members Anyone like to know more about sailing in Malta and this region please ask

Joseph

Are there wet Tortuga's? Is the name related to alcohol consumption?

There is no water supply - all water from the fort is from rain stored in cisterns. (And for park use only - you must supply your own.)
