Greetings

Greetings to all from St Georges. Wish I had found this forum before we had left Florida but better late than never. Barb and I are winding our way up the Windwards after sailing straight from Ponce Inlet to Barbados. Got stuck here in Grenada for longer than expected but what a great place to get stuck in!

Ned

Great to have you here, Ned!

Are you in the new marina there in St. Georges, or anchored? My wife and I spent some time in Grenada a few months after Hurricane Ivan, and I'm wondering how things have changed. Almost every home had blue tarps on the roof then, but the people we met were universally upbeat, and making their plans to recover and rebuild.

Grenada today is...

only somewhat recovered from that terrible storm. I heard that some places on the island did not get electricity back until last year late. There are a lot of places that did not get rebuilt yet (and it seems that they may never) including several historically significant places such as churches and government buildings including Ft George. The debris is still evident in some places especially along the coastline.

The upside is that GD is up and running again and rebuilding efforts are on-going. It is an excellent place for yachties with great provisioning, availability of marine parts and supplies and several great anchorages and marinas. The new Port Luis project in the Lagoon is trudging along behind schedule but is just installing floats on part of the project. They are reportedly very expensive and considering their level of completion I feel that they only appeal to very large boats and those that need a place and everyone else is full. According to local news sources, the Pt Luis project may be modified due to irregularities related to involved entities...

We are located at the venerable Grenada Yacht Club and have had a wonderful stay here and highly recommend it. Don't forget Carriacou and Petite Martinique too.

Ned
