Greetings!

Hi All! I just joined the forum, but I've been trolling the threads for years. I just moved to Vancouver, BC and I'm excited to get back into sailing after a few years on dry land. No boat as of yet, hopefully next summer, but I'm keeping and eye out and hoping to crew or rent in the meantime. I've had a limited amount of experience with sailing on the big blue, so I'm hoping to change that!

Re: Greetings!

Hi Megal,

Welcome. Always nice to see a lurker go active.

So, I have to ask about your handle. Is that like me-gal, you-guy. You-Tarzan, me-Jane?

Me-Florida so no boating experience in the Pacific but I hear the scenery around Vancouver is pretty spectacular. Hope to see it one day.

Good luck getting back on the water.

Re: Greetings!

Hey Skip!

Haha I'd never thought of it that way- almost wish it was! It's actually a silly nickname my cousin started calling me when we were kids (my actual name is Megan). Can't remember how she came up with it, but the full name was Megal McBagel. She still uses it

Thanks for the welcome! I'd love to try out sailing in warmer waters someday, but I'm pretty excited to explore the PNW for the next little while.

Sailing warmer waters does have a lot going for it. My first trip to the west coast my CA friends took us to the beach in Marin County. Middle of August I stuck my foot in the water and was astonished at how cold it was. No way I was going in that without a wet suit. Meanwhile, even in far north FL, last year we went water skiing for Christmas.

But the tradeoff, the land side in FL is pretty flat and plain. The photos I've seen of the US northwest and BC area are spectacular. Maybe you can't get in the water but the sights are to behold. On the other hand, go to Keys in south Florida and the water is a color of clear blue that will take your breath away.

Re: Greetings!

What? Was the handle "McBagel" already taken? That's what it needs to be.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Darn. I was guessing a shorter form of Miguel. I was way off.
Good to have you here Ms. McBagel.
