Going To Baltimore Want To Live Aboard

hi I am coming to Baltimore to work for Tidewater yacht service. I have a 23 foot Bayliner. I would like to do some work on my boat while I live on it does anyone know of a boatyard that I could live aboard at and do this, I would like to live aboard while on its trailer just need electric

I would expect boatyards and marinas to be afraid of liability issues. You might have better luck at an RV park, where people are living on "trailers" normally.

Of course, anyplace that allows you to work on the boat is going to be a whole other problem. Someone with a private lot who is just looking to rent it out might be the answer to that.

Hellosailor might be right. I have done it for very short periods of time at a marina near Annapolis - they didn't fuss about it, but I expect they would if I'd been there for the long haul. If you need more info, PM me, as the marina in question would probably not like my advertising the fact that they allow this.

Don't use the word live and aboard in the same sentence when talking about a boat on the hard. Just tell them you're going to be working on the boat nights, and will require access to it and power. Don't freak if they unplug the boat whenever they find it plugged in and you not there. Don't do it for long cause it's a major PITA.

You could also try an ad on Craigslist look for a private owner to rent you some of their land.....bring a long extension cord.

Check Active Captain for Bal'mer marinas.... there's a boatload of 'em... then start calling around...

In my experience, most boatyards specifically state that you are not to live aboard when on the hard, but they generally look the other way if you are quiet, neat, don't advertise the fact you are there, and pay your bills on time. If you are constantly grinding your hull or power sanding after hours, you will get kicked out quick. One way I have found to "grease the skids", so-to-speak, is to walk into the boatyard carrying your checkbook or a wad of cash in your hand and saying you'd like to be hauled out for say the next 30 days and you'd like to write a check up front for a month's storage. Doesn't hurt to get chummy with the yard manager by offering him a cold beer once in awhile either.
