Getting Started!

Hello Sailors! Just getting started (a year ago) in water sailing">blue water sailing. Been sailing on lakes and motored on rivers in midwest. Any tips or cat sailing in the Carrib would be appreciated. Planning a few bareboat trips to find what I want to buy. Need to get a "floating condo" so I can go where I want. Looking forward to the fellowship.

Welcome Ken. Your plan of doing some bareboat charters before buying your first cat is a great idea (although I would use it to develop likes and dislikes, rather than limiting your selection to the types of boats currently in charter). There are various threads here which should also be of assistance to you in deciding what particular cat/s would best suit your intended use.

As to referring to cats as 'floating condos', understand that most cat owners take that as a perjorative term. And while some may deserve that title, the vast majority of cruising cats (and all of those suited for blue water sailing) are far better boats than that.

Cheers!

Aloha Cap'n Ken,
Welcome aboard!! Good to have you here and looking for that "dream boat." There are lots of Carib sailors here on the forum and hopefully they'll chime in soon.
Those cat owners are really sensitive so be very careful about what you say! : )
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Hi Ken the "Floating Condo" sounds like a good plan.

Good luck man,
