Thumbs up Getting Salty again in Puerto Vallarta!

My name is James, however most people know me as Dreamr.

I am the crazy-type. The kind who buy a catalina as old as they are and sail without an engine down the california coast and into mexico with no previous sailing experience.

I don't let inexperience get in the way of having fun or learning new things. I certainly didn't learn spanish before I moved to mexico

I lived aboard that Catalina for almost 2 years as I sailed it from San Fran to Ensenada. I got into and out of trouble on her many times. We ended up 200 miles off the coast of baja in a storm, and her boom snapped, the storm sails shredded, and I lost a stanchion which opened a good hole in her side.

For 2 days I sailed her in that condition, with a double reef in the main, and a storm jib with a huge tear in it, back to Turtle Bay. To get steerage without a boom I tied the main off to one cleat or another on the transom.

I forever fell in love with the sea in those 4 days of being blow out and getting back in, all while feeling very macgyver and manly.

I am currently saving up for a wetsnail32 to continue that madness and make for the cocos and galapagos in the next couple of years.

If you live in PV by all means send me a PM and let's chat. I would love to buy some beers, chill on the beach and talk salt.

I won't be in Mexico until next winter. But there are a lot of forum people that might help drink your beer.

Welcome to the forum. I think the W32 is a good choice for what you want to do. Very stout boat and not that slow in the right winds. You'll never have to worry about a station tearing loose like on the C30 and leaving a gaping hole behind.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
"I like turtles." Well, I liked Turtle Bay anyway but didn't see any.
Good to have you here. You've got a great story to tell and I'm certain we'd like to hear more.
