Thanks Allan despite joining early last year, and then not being active until today, I will have to work out how to post. As new boat owners sounds like both of us have been having fun. Mine started with a recent haul out and making the big mistake of having a mechanic come aboard, mayhem ensued. Anyhow the lesson learned was try to do as much as possible myself, know and manage your mechanic

Tom, it is a venerable '76. It more or less fell in our laps as the owner got very sick and looked for a quick sail.

Welcome to CF. Will you be an entrant in the Festival or a spectator? If spectating, you might consider volunteering to help out with the festivities. It is a great way to meet lots of fellow nuts, to contribute something to the community and to have a great time in general. Ann and I, along with Sue (and her mate Mike) did so for the last go 'round, and will be doing so again next year if the gods don't conspire against us.

At any rate, we'll keep an eye out for Wee Barkie. When do you plan to head south?

Hi Guys I am planning to leave the Tweed River in mid January, and planning a coastal trip meeting up with Rick on Masnia in Sydney.

It will be interesting to look at our future maintenance issue ,seeing both boats where built the same year. Fiberglass versus Wood . Tom

I miss my old woody except for the maintenance part, and the sanding, and the varnish and refinishing the masts.

Aloha John I hear what you are saying about the maintenance, and get this I am planning to build a wooden mast. This gaff rig will convert Wee Barkie back to how she looked when she first hit the water back in 1977.
You live in a very beautiful part of the world, and I have many great memories of cruising places like Black Maneli on Lanai Is,Maui and always stopped of at the little barge harbour of Lono on Molakai Is.

Welcome aboard, Tom.. As a former 'woodie' owner, there is nothing quite as satisfying as caring for a wooden boat. They beat these'plastic fantastics' all to hell in my opinion.
My partner grew up in the Top End and her family holidayed every year on the Gold Coast! Some of her fondest memories of of that area and Noosa. Enjoy the Woodie show in Hobart! Phil
