G'day to all,
I'm a 24 year old single male from Sydney, and I'm all about working to live and not the other way around. Currently in the process of intense research into 'living aboard' and getting a vessel of my very own. I'm new to boating and keen to give it a red hot crack. I'm also new to the forum and keen for any advice and knowledge you veterans have to throw my way.

Best way to to make it a relativity? Stay well clear of this place and the internet in general. The less you read about 'why not', the more likely you are to succeed. Apart from that, go buy a laser and learn how to sail first.

The carribean is calling you! Look into crewing charter boats there, just make sure you know how to sail!

thanks folks, I'm looking into diesel power boats at the moment. maybe sail some other day. I'm looking at bio diesel/vegetable oil diesel conversion options.

Yikes.. Powerboats? Shh.. Dont tell anyone that. Its mostly Rag n Stick blokes here although the odd stink boater does sneak in occasionally. Usually to clean up after the bar fights. Oh, and put the bins out.

But welcome along and enjoy the ride all the same. Btw, there are quite a few other Aussies hanging around here too. They are the ones who started the bar fights. Actually, to be totally honest. Regardless of any reputations, I reckon its the blokes from a hemisphere north and to the right that start most of them. I dont know why I blamed our mob!

well I'm trying to do green powered if that helps. besides, i have no sailing experience and I'm very new to boating in general. its a crazy idea, but I'm always keen for a laugh!!
i am however interested in sailing, i just don't have the knowhow, and it would add another extra BIG thing to learn. but certainly someday.

no prob mate.. btw your local coastal patrol will run a few courses. worth checking them out

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Don't let anyone tell you not to do it. It's a great life. I'd recommend learning to sail and do it by finding someone to crew for or taking a basic sailing course. It'll open up the option of using the wind instead of fossil fuels to get about.

sailing is definitely not out of the question. I just don't know who do get into contact with to get some experience. I'm in sydney, boat less, and am keen for any experience anyone wants to throw my way to get me ready for my grand plans.

Pete, there's plenty of yacht clubs around Sydney that would have lessons, especially over manly way. Most clubs have programs just call around.
