Freedom of the seas

Hello! This January will mark one year with my 1988 Freedom 38 -- Kynntana, which means "star" in Malagasy. It was my mother's stage name as an aerialist in American circuses. She did an act called the Iron Jaw where she hung by her teeth at the top of the tent. Cool lady; cool boat. Unlike my mother, who never liked to get wet, my life revolved around the water -- high salt, chlorinated, fresh, underground, and brackish. I spent most of my life living around the Florida Gulf Coast and going through a variety of motor vessels including a 50-ft Hatteras that inhaled diesel like it was cotton candy. After a move to the Washington DC area, I took up sailing on the Chesapeake and had an epiphany that I was meant to be a sailor and not a power boater. Just when I was close to buying my own sailboat for the calm, shallow Chesapeake waters, I moved to the San Francisco area where I realized I love racing. Now I plan to race Kynntana (both crewed and single-handed) over the next couple of years. I am also having great fun learning about the art of diesel maintenance, electrical wiring, causes of head stink, replacing zincs, climbing the mast, trimming an unstayed rig, docking in cross winds, navigating, and on and on. So, that's my story. I am looking forward to absorbing the vast knowledge of others on this site
