Hi All. As a kid, I read all the Arthur Ransome books (esp.WDMTGTS) If you read Arthur R., youll know what that is. About ten years ago, after a lifetime of hankering after a boat, I went to a sailing school, and then bought an old Savage Nautilus in good condit. 20', small Yanmar diesel, headsail on a furler and main. Head, galley, sleeps three. Im on a swing mooring in Rushcutters Bay - Sydney Harbour/. I'm no spring chicken (b.1931), but last year I rounded Baranjoey Head, put out into the blue Pacific, sailed down the coast to Sydney. Rounding North Head , and seeing the Harbour open up, and then the Bridge felt fabulous. Wind was NW. 15 - 20k, swell 1.5, a bit of wind wave. I cooked spam and baked beans, but my neice wouldnt touch it. Funny, that. Good wishes to all. Mond

Welcome Mond. I don't blame our neice for skipping the spam though it's nice she's sailing with you. After the baked beans she may be having second thoughts!

Great to have you aboard. There's nothing like turning off the motor for the first time, either in your life or on a given trip. To me, that's the purest joy of sailing.

Keep at it And don't give up on the Spam diet. The doubters will no doubt roll their eyes behind your back, but that stuff's going to be good for our grandkids to eat, even if it was packaged yesterday and we don't have any children yet. Real sailor's food...must be, anyways. I saw a lot of a knock-off brand on Waterworld
