Welcome Mike and congratulations on the neww project and direction.
Now you're a carpenter you say? Hmmm. If you ever feel the need to head east (a long was east) I'm also in the process of refitting an old boat - and your skills would be really useful!
Sail safe

Hi all, I am new too. I am not to where I have a sailboat yet, can't afford the dockage, but have a little pocket cruiser and regularly take off for hidden bays and coves around the Chesapeake to spend the night on the hook. The dream is to eventually move onto a boat and spend as much time as possible u/w or anchored in a quiet cove reading and swimming.

Hello Seamanmt,
Welcome to the brotherhood of boaters. The great thing about boats and the ocean is that no matter how long you have been doing it there is always something new to learn and experience. And this is a good place to learn a few things and get good advice on projects.
I am sure that there are a few things that we can all learn from you as well.
Best regards, Liam.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I'm not familiar with the Seaway 39 so photos would be good if you can post them.
Good to have you here and wish you many happy years of cruising.
kind regards,
