Finally

Hi, I joined this board in 2006 and have only lurked since then but I believe the time has come to say hello and share a bit about my “Plan b”. I have been re-fitting my 1978 S2 9.2c sloop, Plan b, since 2004 and living aboard the entire time, including 11 months on the hard. (In all fairness, I work on a ship half the year so everything took twice as long.) I purchased the boat at auction in derelict condition with some structural damage knowing the road would be long and hard but I purchased what I could afford, moved aboard and went to work, go small – go now. I hauled the boat and had 330 blisters, that’s right 330. I did a complete bottom peal, dried out for 8 months and put on a new bottom, engine, rigging (standing &running), sanitation system, paint, dodger & enclosure, refrigerator & freezer, 300 amps of batteries… and a bunch of other stuff. All that in addition to replacing the main floor frame and two chain plate bulkheads, new teak and holly… well, you get the idea. I have had my hands on every square inch my boat, inside and out. It just kept going and one thing led to another until, well, I think I’m ready to go. I’ll be getting off the ship around mid March and we’ll be starting our shakedown/breakdown cruise, we were going to Tampa, but plans changed so we’ll be departing Cape Canaveral, FL and heading south to the keys. Well, that’s it. I just wanted to let you know about us and get to know some of you. I hope to see you out there.
Mike

Wow Mike:

Sounds like a great project. Can you share pictures and /or costs. As I remeber those S9.2 were pretty quick boats. Have fun on your trip down the coast and welcome to CF.

Thank you, Ballast (the cat) is the driving force that motivates the crew daily.
