Greetings all. I am JJ, a 49yo single male currently living in eastern ontario, Canada. I am working towards purchasing a Yacht and living a new life. I suppose thats the easy part because I am also seeking a compatible woman to fall in love with that could share this lifestyle with me. If you know anyone please point them in my direction, thanks.

Hi JJ and welcome. You know finding the right boat can be as difficult as finding the right wife. But if you are as handsome in person as you are in your photo, finding a wife should be no problem.

Yes, welcome aboard! Finding a suitable mate might be made more difficult by your choice in yachts - a fifty foot wooden ketch may look and sound romantic, but it will be a ton of work. I know, plastic, steel and aluminum all may seem cold, but if you are new to sailing you might find the transitioin a lot easier if you buy a smaller fiberglass boat that allow you to spend more time sailing and less on maintenance.

Thanks all to date for your kind welcome and encouraging words. And Southern, thanks too for your wisdom. You are exactly correct, I do find the whole thing romantic and the character and esthetics of an older boat seems to draw me in, having been a builder and woodworker my whole life.

So any and all ideas/advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

A friend who has a Tahiti ketch told me that wooden boats are not a hobby, they are a full time occupation. It does sound like you have the skill set.

My Cousin built a newfoundland dorey, sewed the seams with copper wire. He told me once, "The greatest day of your life is when you get a wooden boat, and the second greatest day is when you get rid of it!"

I am coming into this a total neophyte so I will keep my ears open and my mouth shut, thanks for the advice.

Good to have you posting here. Finding both at the same time is difficult but not impossible. Many times women and boats are not compatible. I'd look for a single female captain that needs crew.
"Two happiest days in a boaters life is the day you purchase the boat and the day you sell the boat." I don't really agree with it but in some cases there is some truth to it.
