Smile Ex-Charter Skipper - Retired to Perth, Western Australia

I truly enjoyed 15 years chartering in the Caribbean .... as owner/operator of "Windwalker" based in the B.V.I's. Tortola.
Had sailed to Caribbean in mid 1980's via south africa/Brazil in 33' 'ferro cement' "Mamselle"....... using a sextant & celestial navigation.& nearly missed St. Helena (south atlantic island)
Could write books on all the adventures (good & bad!)thru living aboard & chartering.
Sailed "Windwalker" to Cuba for 6 months to set up a charter business from Havana.....etc etc .

Reluctantly returned to Perth over 10 years ago to 'retire' on land & now getting bored with playing Lawn Bowls .......& hearing about peoples medical problems
Now recently divorced , & 'free' again hahaha.... so selling my home & starting to look for a cruising yacht to liveaboard.
With our Oz dollar so strong ;seriously looking overseas; Med. U.S.A. S.E.Asia etc....

This is a great Forum for yachties & I am reading heaps of subjects to catch up on latest news /articles ...

cheers captjohn ....ex-" Windwalker"

Lawn Bowls - Each step you take is one step closer to death...

Welcome aboard and get back to living!

Divorce sucks but the pain is worth it. Now the decks are cleared for what you really want and I presume it's not lawn bowls!

Hay Capt John,

This sounds like a fantastic plan and I really admire you for the path that you are taking.

I'd really love to hear some of your stories from your years of experience as would heaps of others. Why don't you consider putting down your experiences on your pc then you could get to the stage where you could sell a CD of your travels to supplement your future travels.

All the best .

Welcome aboard John. Good luck with your search. Plenty of good boats closer to home too, don't forget!

Thx for suggestion & maybe you can be my P.R. Manager to sell C.D's......

However, Remembering everything is the problem ... it all comes back in my 'dreams'....or when I browse my old photos!..... Sometimes when I wake up singing............hic hic

" I'm a "Rum soaked Captain"...sung to the tune of.... "I'm a Rhinestone Cowboy" .
Seriously, I will tell stories here from time to time ; or just ask me specific questions about chartering there (Caribbean ) in 80's & 90's..

Just bought my Beneteau here on the Swan. Anybody feel like coming aboard and taking a sail in exchange for providing some of your seasoned pointers, just let me know

I'm keeping it at the seller's pen for the next couple of months, looking for a permanent pen or mooring on the river after that.
