Yes the name is a take on "das boot" and it does indicate I got a "free" boat which of course isn't as free as I'd hoped.

Anyway, I'm the carport skipper of a 74 venture 17 swing keel microcruiser hull number 147 that had the mast stay ripped off in a squall. It had been repaired and functioning but the wood sat too long and it has to be redone. The deck support under the stay needs replaicing and I've bought a new break winch to replace the old one. I'm sure it'll get worse from there but I'm determined to try and run-aground/sink on the Great Salt Lake and maybe off the west coast of florida sometime this summer.

Wish me luck!

WElcome aboard Steve - You'll love the site, because almost all of us (defined as boat owners) have major projects that are ongoing all the time and have lots of answers to questions you might come up with. You might wish to take a little time and put some info into your PROFILE (see top right of this page in the Banner) so that when you do ask questions, there will be some info for others to understand your question and how to formulate an appropriate response.

Aloha Steve,
Welcome aboard. I'm constantly repairing club boats here in Hawaii so if you have questions about such repairs let us know. We have a Luger 16 with much the same condition problems you've mentioned.
Kind Regards,
JohnL
