Aloha Dave,
Welcome to the forum of many opinions and some good advice. Go for it as early as you can. I retired at the age of 46 and still have not gotten back to cruising. Did some in the 80s. Built a house, a couple small boats, bought some land and the big boat is still not done. Now am 63 or 64 (can't remember) and don't know if I'll ever really get out there again. So, just go for it.
Kind regards,
JohnL

G'day John,

Thankns for the encouragement mate. I have just finished building the dream home only to have the butt fall out of the economy. However I remain positive and I will get there, you will as well. Hawaii what a glorious place to be, no doubt I will make it there sooner or later I just have to offload this house and find a suitable vessell.

Cheers for now

Dave

Yes just the 2 of us.

The 393 is great in every respect.
The monsoon trough has extended down to Bundi(!) and last night did it rain! But there is the space and air on a Beneteau that its not got that clastraphobic feeling.

Beneteaus are cheep for the standard of the boat and we could afford a fairly new one 2001.
Production lines make huge savings for the manufacturer.

G'day Mark,

Its been raining up here too, further north of you its a washout, Ingham is flooded and there's more on the way I believe. Makes for muddy sailing up the coast I guess.
True enough about the savings there is real value for money in production yachts provided it's not a lemon. I might be looking to hard for too much, I have just read and looked for "Boats to Consider for Offshore Cruising" on Sailnet and find it amazing how many different makers are out there. I think in reality most of the time one would spend more time costal cruising and crossings would be reasonably minimal. Therefore buying something generic would be benificial with regard to overall cost, parts and service. I'm looking at a whole bunch of boats and saw a 1998 461 Oceanis Bilge keel for sale here in Darwin, what do you know about the Bilge Keel models ?

Cheers Dave
