Colin Archer RS14 Type Cruisers

Hi, I've just now become a member. Just what I've always hoped I would find.
I'm from Sydney, Australia and live aboard a one off, triple diagonal planked 36 ft ketch named gwenn a du. I'll put up lots of photos soon yet for now I was interested in getting some opinions of the archer rs 14style designs and if there are people cruising on something similar. Thanks
Niki

Welcome to the forum Niki.
I'm sure looking forward to see you boat pictures....I love the looks of a lot of the Colon Archers I've seen.

The mods might want to change the title for you. I think you mean "Colin" not "Colon" ... some might get the wrong idea as to what the thread it about.

Yes Colin of course, typo. Mine is not an archer though I am interested in the 47 ft earlier designs so would love to hear how they go as cruisers.
Here some pics of my boat gwenn a du, see if anyone knows what she is based around.

Google Paul Erling Johnson for his "venus" boats. We built about 10 from 1980 to abot 1990, ranging from the 28ft, to the 56ft Nightwind. Airex core, gaff ketches. I worked on about 6 of them.

Wow great. I'll look through all the specs and pics and let you know what I think. Were an owner of one?

Re: Colon archer rs14 type cruisers

Never owned one, Paul was around Bermuda a lot in the late 60's-early 70's, when I was part of an operation building 70ft tourist cruise boats out of Airex core.
He had been sailing the wooden Venus' in and out for some years. I actually sailed on the 16ft venus with him locally. He spent a lot of time with us, and got sold on the Airex boats.
Most were owner built, but in this small community, many enthusiasts lent their talents and knowledge freely.
There are 4 or 5 still here in Bermuda. Sorta home to roost after many miles.
Moon and Bear are 2 more of the well travelled 42ft models.
Lots of fun back then.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I sailed with Martin on his Ingrid 38 which was a Colin Archer design. I think yours is a Herreshoff design but I could be wrong.
kind regards,

Re: Colon archer rs14 type cruisers

I admire Colin Archer style designs. They have a reputation for being excellent sea boats. I am sure your ketch is no different and I look forward to seeing your photos.
