ciao!
hi... new poster. not very familiar with using message forums, but was introduced to this by a friend who uses this site religiously...
dinghy & big boat racer. very much based in newport ri. not much of a cruiser, but obviously open to anything.  just came off of full time on s/y TICONDEROGA because we're having a refit this winter... auxiliary work abounds! i'm going down to san diego next week to take a swan to cabo san lucas & hang out there for a while. can anyone tell me anything about cabo? never been!

cabo for christmas on a swan. sweet. spent last christmas in la paz, about 50 clicks to the north, and found I was able to get by in shorts and a light fleece most evenings.
todos bien. but the cruising community in la paz is a bit more settled, a bit less tourista. the good news is that your dollar will go about 30% farther than mine went a year ago.

Although originally from californina I have never been as far south as Cabo. Used to do Tijuana and ensenada runs a lot as a kid. Baja is cool.

Cabo used to be a small charming port. Now its a big, sorta charming port. Have a great time! There are plenty of things to do there including visiting the Costco and the giant American style supermarkets. Be sure to continue on to Z-town if you want to see small, authentic and charming.

Last time I was in Cabo they hadn't fnished building around the inner harbor. Must be 20 years. AT that time it was pretty touristy. But with someone eelse paying the bills and you being on a Swan it should be a fun trip. Best part is the trip down the coast. If the wind is blowing from the NW it is a Spin ride all the way. First night a little cold. Second night not so cold. Third night not cold at all. Fourth night hope the beer is cold. Have a fun trip. The Ticonderoga! Wow! 80' Herreshoff ketch with a clipper bow. Most recently first in her class in the 2008 Antigua Classic Yacht Races. That's one beautiful boat you sail! Maybe I can snag a ride next time you come to the Caribbean? (Beg, beg, grovel)
Seriously, glad to have you here, and hope you enjoy yourself. We'd love to hear about the Ticonderoga, too.

thanks! actually, i live in newport, nantucket, vineyard, maine, greenwich, key west, etc most of the time.... i've had it with the charming ports lol. bring me miami and antigua! almost looking foward to something big, loud, borderline obnoxious. you get that in NPT if you know where to go but otherwise its been really zzzzzzzz lately... and great picture of Ti you found, Hud! looks like it does everytime we're out racing ('cept opera house) full of FOG lol.
Hiii, Antonio! is anyone else from home on here?

right here GigiDi getting bags packed for flight to Pensacola to get boat to key west, thanks to all the members for the advice and deliveries I have received and thanks for welcoming Gigidi.

thanks, guys. Well, Antonio, hope all goes well on your delivery. i'm leaving first thing tomorrow morning for San Diego to Sail to Cabo.... not sure how many days we will be in San Diego before we leave... just glad to be out of Newport. brrrrrrrr. i've stopped believing in cold weather.

It won't be as cold as R.I., but it will be damp, and chilly most of the ride. When you round the cape in Cabo everything changes for the warmer.....i2f

that's what i've heard. i had to pack some of my offshore gear... wicking layers, offshore coat & bibs, and (idiotically) my dubarrys also... which made for quite a load... (so i had to throw some things in a smaller bag to check) much to my dismay because stupid US Airways charges 15 to check your first bag and 25 for the second bag!! 40$$ in all to take things that should come for FREE!! (sonofab*tch!!!) and all i've heard from people is how lightly i travel!! sorry for the rant. just hate the airlines.
