Arrow Cheers from Canada

Hey folks, new to the forum and just getting started here. Any information, suggestions, or opportunities you can pass along will be greatly appreciated.

Quick rundown:

Grew up on boats and around the water. Graduated from a Marine Navigation Program in 2003 and worked on the Atlantic Coast and Great Lakes for 3 years on a small oil tanker before changing careers (sometimes $ talks) and getting my Power Engineers ticket and working in the oilfields of Alberta the past 10 years. I've come full circle and it's time to get back where I belong on the water.

I spend my summers sailing my small 22' English style bilge keel on the Bras d'Or Lakes.

I have my STCW 95 Bridgewatch + Competent Helmsman Testimonial
4th Class Power Engineer Ticket
Carpentry skills I have obtained the last 25 years under a local boat builder and master carpenter.... my old man.
Numerous safety tickets and OHS training.
Competent in small engine troubleshooting and repair, the positive side of usually buying everything 2nd hand I guess.

35 years young, jack of all trades I guess you could say. I'm open to any adventure and will clear my schedule for the right opportunity !!!

I like good people, good laughs, good beer and love to learn. Looking forward to this next chapter.

Cheers

Welcome my friend....

Your story is not unique.. Newfs, Scotia's and Brunswick's had a tough go with the Alberta oil crash (strangely, us Albertans didn't hurt as bad).

Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for.

Re: Cheers from Canada

Welcome. You're in a great area - visited it in passing on a road trip to Labrador a year or two ago.

You've got lots of great sailing where you are, but raise a flag if you're interested in the Great Lakes at some point - we are in the process of buying a boat and may be interested in friendly crew for some trips.

Hello,
I'm looking to spend another summer in Newfoundland, where we have a cabin. But we also have a parcel in Washabuck, so we are almost neighbors!

Thanks for the feedback folks, this forum is great !!!

hpeer - I spend every 2nd day in Washabuck/Washabuck River in the summer. Great spot to get away from the busy city life of Baddeck.... haha

Welcome CC. I'm a Great Lakes sailor with plans to make it to The Rock this season. Maybe we'll cross wakes someday soon.

Hello CanadianCruiser, Welcome to the forum. As a retired Merchant Marine, (20 years)
I know that you can't get it out of your system. When you live around water and boats
it becomes an addiction. A good addiction though. Your still young enough to have many great adventures. Best of luck to you.

Thanks Bill. I don't know where I'll end up but that uncertainty is part of the adventure. Cheers
