Cape Cod Bay to Bar Harbor

Just for the heck of it, if all you had was a 20' centerboard daysailer, what would be your safest plan to launch from Yarmouth , MA (across Cape Cod Bay) to Bar Harbor? Sailing experience is beginner to intermediate. Please no jokes, just curious. Is it remotely achievable? Could it be done?

to Onset -> plymouth -> Sciutate -> Boston Islands Peddocks) -> Salem or Gloucester -> Rockport -> Kittery Point of isle of Shoals -> York -> you look up the next hops

Of course you could go longer jumps like go east and just shoot up on a SW wind for 2 days.

@sailorboy1 Thank you! Those would be recommended overnights, yes?

That would be day hopping.

Keep in mind that it is a LOT harder to come back (and Bar Harbor isn't really worth such a long boat trip).

Excellent to know. we have property slightly beyond Bar Harbor in Flanders Bay. If ever in an emergency evacuation scenario, if the bridges were shut down etc to get off of the Cape, we just wanted to know if we could do it. Get to our Maine preperty with our little sail boat. Your response is greatly appreciated.

I have a feeling that if the bridges were shut down due to weather you would not be able to make that trip.
sailorboy, your opinion? I'm not from those parts.

Re: Cape Cod Bay to Bar Harbor

In a 20 footer you're not going to go around Monomoy so I assume you're going West to the canal then across the Bay?

I'm assuming no cuddy so no place to sack out while your relief takes the helm. I would say def. doable in a series of day hops. Easier if you have a kicker and a bit of fuel. GPS would be a must and once you get downeast the fog may be more of an issue than anything else. If you do it, write a book about it. It would be a good story.

I have an O'Day Mariner in Chatham and have planned a down east cruise in a bigger boat for years so I have a good mental picture of what you want to do.

I plan on doing a Chesapeake bay to Maine trip next year. It will be in a Catalina Capri 22. Cambridge > C & D Canal > Delaware Bay > Cape May Canal > Block Island > Cape Cod Canal > Vinalhaven Island. Then cruise around there for a few weeks. I might even do it this fall.
