Hiya....Alan H here from the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm gearing up for a little trip this coming summer and joined up to see what I could learn from y'all about Navigation software, sending e-mail over an Iridium phone, and tecchie schtuff like that.

I have a Santa Cruz 27, not your usual cruising boat!

In order. If you have a laptop then get some, It works and it's expensive even after you buy the phone. tecchie schtuff? We got plenty!

A lot of past threads on all this and even more! Enjoy yourself and I hope you can find all the things you need.

Thanks for the welcome! This is great. I've already learned how to make SeaClear play an obnoxious sound file to wake me up offshore when an AIS-equipped vessel comes within my pre-set alarm range. Perfect. I used Audacity (free sound file editor) to make a truly horrible warning that will wake the dead that lasts for 40 seconds....not some little wimpy "ding", and will transfer it to the laptop, now.

Looking forward to more discussion and reading about Iridium e-mail offshore.
