Re: budget chart plotter

SEATEC - Chart Plotter NAV-6 / NAV-6i from 299,95 € | SVB GmbH

This cheap chineseone has worked fine for me during the last two years. It takes c-maps mega wide in and talks nmea1803, so you can get ais info into it.

Once I had to update the firmware, because it was not zooming. After that only occasionally (once a week or so) freezes, reboot helps. And I have changed the power connection because the original is was poor quality.

If You are going to use also the nmea features a spare cable would be a good idea.

The screen is pretty good and the whole thing is great for the money. The unit takes some humidity in, can be seen in a sunny day on the screen, but when I opened it everything looked fine. No salt, no oxidation...

Im planning to buy another one of these as a spare

Re: budget chart plotter

Thanks all for the ideas.

I wrote to Garmin last week and asked for models of chart plotters with a detailed description of intended use. They sent me 2 model numbers that were around 600 and over 1,000. I just want to know some model numbers of some that are just simple plotters. Don't need ais, radar, fish finder combos. Just charts so I can search for sales, craigslist and ebay.

Probably end up with my charts, handheld gps and some good old fashion looking out the window.

Still looking though. I'm not moving until the end of hurricane season.
