Hi, I have been day sailing around the Boston Harbor Islands for about 6 years (rhodes 19 and J22's) and hope to begin cruising soon. I'm signed up for a basic cruising class this spring. Up till now the only cruising I've done is through the pages of SAIL magazine. When I'm sailing, I can't wipe the grin off my face.

We sail that area too. While we moor at Tern Harbor the access to the islands and bay make it a great spot. You can even sail when its really blowing cause the bay is so big. Oh yes, did I mention the lobster and scallop diving is the worlds best kept secret? Shhhh

Neo, welcome to the forum Do you have your cruising boat yet? If not, What are you leaning towards?
I consider myself a southern girl, but lived in Rhode Island for three years. Loved to go to Boston, you(s) guys make the best clam..? forgot what there are called, little fried clams on a sandwich roll? Not a fan of fried foods but loved the clam sandwich. Anyways, I hope you are cruising soon.

Years ago I used to date a woman from Boston. She frequently talked about this place that she and her family visited for vacation. She called the place "Bahaba". So, for months I was left with the impression that there was such a place. So, one day I asked her a question about Bahaba. She gave me this incredulous look and asked me if I was mocking here. I said no. All I wanted to know is something about Bahaba. She slowed down the pronunciation of the name and said, "Its Bar Harbor you goof!"

Boston Sailing - Schools Lessons Certifications - Boston Harbor Sailing Club - Sailboat Racing Moorings Rentals Charters

They offer lessons and fun racing. Better they have a variety of cruising boats available to members at very low cost compared to owning a boat. This will let you try out some different boats to see what suits you. Better, these are based in different harbors in Mass and RI so you have some variety.

Yes, we have friends that lives very near Tern Harbor. They need only cross River street to access their mooring. I'm jealous.

Don't feel bad. I grew up here but was caught off guard once while listening to a local radio commercial. They were selling Aahvees. What? Oh! Some people call them recreational vehicles.
