Re: Blind Skipper (don't panic)...
firstly welcome !!
well i used to live in Hawaii and i always admired the Hawaiian mariners.... i read somewhere that in their crossings the pilot used his body (not instruments ) to navigate... i.e he put the tiller between his legs to feel every bit of motion of the currents....today its more like we are just there as a bystander and the sailor (pilot) is (was) really someone from Silicon Valley...

An RSS feed automatically notifies people of blog updates. If you use Firefox, the default "News" feed for BBC is an example of an RSS feed.

Re: Blind Skipper (don't panic)...
Hmm, sounds technical. One for eldest son I think. What is the point of kids, if we can not annoy and embarrass them once they are grown up!
Thanks mate.

LOL!!! It's just a case of going to your Dashboard / Control Panel where you add widgets (which are simply cool buttons: like a calendar, reader location map etc) and dragging it to your menu bar. I have attached an example of what is usually looks like for your son. so that he has no excuses.
It means that when you post a new blog entry, it will feed to My Yahoo! page. Otherwise, I can add you to my bookmarks of course, which I might trawl through a few times a year in case someone has added something...

Re: Blind Skipper (don't panic)...
Welcome Steve,
Thanks for the blog and the inspiration. My wife lost over 75% of her vision during brain surgery a while back and I hope to encourage her to take up sailing with me. I will show her this thread...

Steve, if you don't mind me saying, she will be more likely to sail with you if you don't take her to Antarctica for the experience. Think of somewhere warmer maybe?

Re: Blind Skipper (don't panic)...
I can really relate to the below decks part of your blog. My cabin lights went out one by one recently, and though I am not blind, I find that it is pretty easy to do everything in my 26' in absolute darkness. I live aboard.

Re: Blind Skipper (don't panic)...
Hummingway, we moved from Colorado to the beach in Costa Rica after her surgery. (She doesn't need to drive there). She is willing to try sailing there once I finish my work in Iraq. She is nervous about the water though she uses water taxis frequently. Unfortunately, Antarctica is out for her as a destination. Besides, I'm not brave enough to sail there anyway Crossing the Drake on a research vessel was close enough for me...

Re: Blind Skipper (don't panic)...
I love reading stories about people sailing those waters, Chichester, Klink and so forth, and that is close enough for me!

Re: Blind Skipper (don't panic)...
I don't know mate, Columbia sounds pretty good right now. Its been a long cold winter. I have just added another video to the blog, shot last summer, not that much warmer then either.
