Big Day

Tomorrow I will be trailering my boat up to Erie, PA and starting my first real cruise. This is the first time I will be really taking on the full roll of skipper in my own boat and man am I excited/nervous. After spending the year in Pittsburgh Beth and I will be packing our bags sailing East to Buffalo and entering the Erie canal, we will be taking that to the Hudson and ending our trip in NYC, trailering the boat the rest of the way to Boston. I know it seems like a small trip but given our budget and the size of our boat it feels like rounding the horn.

Here goes nothing. Thanks for all of the knowlege and support CF community, I doubt I would have made it this far if it wasn't for this site, even if it drives me crazy from time to time.

Enjoy the trip.

You probably won't have any problems with rogue waves and hurricanes so you won't need a parachute or a series drogue.

It sounds like a fun trip.

Go for it.

Coax the boat to follow its pointy end, and do what you can to keep the stick pointing skyward. Try to keep the crew inboard and the water outboard. The moment you think you might need to reef, reef.

the rest is easy.

Glad to hear that you'll be getting underway. As the skipper your biggest responsibility is safety for your crew. Once that is covered the rest is a piece of cake. Sounds like a very exciting trip. I'd like to do the Erie Canal sometime.
kind regards,

Well we made it across Lake Erie, down the Canal, down the Hudson, and trailered the boat up to Maine all without anyone losing any eyeballs or limbs. We did this all in what is essentially an 18 ft boat. I am feeling pretty good about myself.

My crew didn't even mutiny, in fact we got engaged at the conclusion of this trip under the New York City skyline. I'd say it was a pretty good summer.

Now it's time to sell our little boat and buy a bigger one. Bahamas bound in a year or two for sure.
