Becoming a Cruiser

A big hello to all the cruisers out there.
Just a quick brief on who we are and where we are at.
My name is Alistair and along with my new wife Nicola and our miniature Poodle, Tiny, have come out from New Zealand, with the intention of buying a yacht in the Med and sailing the world.
I finished working at the end of last year, my wife finished 4 weeks ago.
My wife and I have had a very busy start to this year.
First was Christmas back home in New Zealand with the family. As soon as Christmas day was over, the house was prepared to be advertised for sale in the new year.
The house was listed at the end of January and sold 11 days later, we now had 7 weeks until settlement, selling most of our possessions and moving out.
Whilst all of this was going on all the family from Europe came to stay as we were married on 26th Feb.
Wedding, came and went. House settlement, move out and pack up, came and went and yes all very stressful.

And now here we are in Hanover, Germany, traveling around and on the hunt for our yacht to cruise the Med for a couple of years.

Our second week away from New Zealand and we have an offer on a Bavaria 47 Cruiser, Owner edition.
To make this happen so quickly, we hired a car in Germany and we made the round trip down through Germany, through Switzerland and then to Pisa in Italy. All up just under 2800Kms in 5 days. Yes a plane would have been a lot easier but we couldn't get one in time that would get us to view the boat.

I will have a few questions and will spend time reading all the appropriate forums.

Fair winds to all.....

Alistair

Tiny Nical,

Welcome aboard, sir, and to your family as well.

You must be feeling pretty stoked right now. Keep us abreast of your adventures.

Too many things on the go, slow down a little and shop more, you may have regrets, time is your friend. I can't begin to tell you how many Bavarias there are for sale in the Med.

Re: Becoming a Cruiser

Hi Robert, Yes there are a lot of Bavaria's in the Med, but finding one that has not been in charter and is newer, plus has the set up we are after, starts to narrow the field.
I have been in contact with many brokers around the Med who have been looking for what we are after. The current boat happens to be the right fit for us and following a survey will determine if it is the one we finally move into.
Cheers
Alistair
