Back with a new plan

Hi all !
Was on here before but been away for a while living a boring life. But have a new gf and a new plan that I thought some of you guys could help with. We are going to buy a boat with the plan of sailing to the med for the summer. Now we are both amateur ! I would say compleat amateur but it's a dream we have and that we will follow to completion. So suggestions on boat and training needed !

So here's the questions.

What boat ? I like the look of the moody 27 or 28 and the mg spring 25. I like the lay out of it with the cabin under the deck. But as you may know both are quite a lot of money so any suggestions on others with the same lay out would be a real help.

Training ? What training would you think we would need to compleat the journey.

I have sailed the life boat I live in now from Essex to Norwich in a force 6-7 it was hair raising but with a mix of a good Friends and shear ignorance made it in to south would ( that we now know a bi&&&&& of a port the enter. As we were told after by the border control and the rnli. But we made it safe and sound in the end if people are interested I will make another feed about the story it was an epic one. I have sailed on occasion and can put a sheet up and catch the wind on the Norfolk rivers.

What's the best time to go and come back ?

I have read that the med is a bit harsh in winter and see myself in March April that the crossing home can be full on.

Strike the MG Spring off the list. Great for facing around the Solent but not for cruising, scary in rough weather. The M27 is quite small and half the weight of our M31, I think you will need something larger, but appreciate you are on a limited budget, aren't we all.

If your looking at Moodys and I have to declare an interest being the Solent Branch Treasurer, don't overlook the older Angus Primrose designs at 33, 36 and 39 feet etc. If you can look past the slightly dated formica interiors they are a lot of boat for the money. If kept light they can also move rather quickly.

I do like the helm rig but 25k is a lot I'm thinking 15k top end. I don't mind the doggy Formica doesn't bother me but I don't like the rear cabin lay out. I like the 30 and the 31 mk1.

Yes as you say moody make some amazing well thought out boats. I take it being 33ft would make it that little bit longer and heavier. Is that so it takes on the waves with a bit more standing?
Is crossing the English Channel going to be the only really challenging bit ? Or will I need it in the med because I was planning to do that at a good time of year.

So now the question is do I look for a cheaper bigger boat not a moody or go for a 30-31ft moody ?

I didn't name her she was launched around 86 by the last owner who had her from new. She has been across the pond a few times.
