G'Day Sorry guys being a very proud Ozzie I just take as a gimmee that you all know that the one and only Great Barrier Reef is along the Queensland coast of Australia. That is the the north coast of eastern Australia.

Just make sure if you do make it over to the GBR make sure you get amongst the real reef rather than just do the normal mainland island run up the reef most sailors make.

The charts of the area are accurate and there are numerous islands, cays and great anchorages all along the 1500NM length.

I spent a few years down there... Kinna spoils cruising anywhere else.

I grew up in Cairns and Townsville and have spent considerable time fishing and diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
The weather is not always so kind,

Winter is strong S/E winds day and night and Spring, Autumn is best but you have to watch the highs in the Aust bight to avoid getting caught out there in 20-30 knots winds with little protection from reefs at high tide.

Just the same,fantastic when the weather is good.
